Foot care: Athlete's foot or interdigital mycosis

Mycosis of the feet is also called athlete's foot, interdigital mycosis or intertrigo inter-toes with dermatophytes.

How to recognize a yeast infection between the toes?
Mycosis between the toes is characterized at first by burning, redness and itching between the fingers (between the fingers). Small white skins or blisters may then appear and progress to painful cuts or cracks. Most often the spaces between the smallest toes are affected first and then the fungus spreads if left untreated.

How to prevent fungal infections between the toes?
Mycosis is caused by a fungus. Mushrooms like to grow in moist, dark and warm places. Perfect hygiene and careful drying of the interdigital spaces are the basis of any prevention. The favorable grounds for catching fungus on the feet are therefore damp floors (swimming pool, locker rooms in sports halls) and clothing in which perspiration is high (sports shoes, nylon socks). People prone to fungal infections of the feet should therefore preferably wear slippers at the swimming pool or sandals in the gym and wear cotton socks.

How to treat foot fungus?
The treatment begins with a good drying of the feet after washing. Then there are many effective anti-fungal molecules. Anti-fungals (anti-fungi) come in the form of a cream, lotion, emulsion or powder. The latest generation of cream (terbinafine) allows a short treatment of one week at the rate of one application per day. Most of the time the "conazoles" (family of antifungals whose name ends with "conazole") require a three-week treatment. The treatment time must be respected even if the symptoms seem to have disappeared to avoid possible recurrences. The powder can be used on the skin but also be sprayed into socks and shoes (recommended).
